Dear Larry and Granville:

This letter will describe.. the general outline of a partnership being developed between WHYY and Ed Venture Networks to produce and air family educational programming across three media - live, television, and interactive (including games).

We are aware of the successful history musicals that you have produced for children in the Philadelphia area during the past two years, and are impressed with the thoroughness of your strategic plan to extend your efforts into new areas and new media. We are eager to work with you to implement some truly innovative and exciting programs for young people and families.

A few of the ideas we are interested in pursuing with your company include:

  • The production of a Time Travellin' history musical about the Liberty Bell, to debut in October 2003, when the Bell will be moved to its new quarters on Independence Mall. This Liberty Bell show will be presented in our WHYY public performance space or another appropriate venue, as part of our planned celebration of the de-commissioning of the old Liberty Bell site and the commissioning of the new site. Performances of the Liberty Bell musical will also be videotaped and edited for possible broadcast at a later date.
  • Partnering with Ed Venture Networks and Temple University's School of Communications and Theatre to create a series of 13 interstitials about the Constitution, to be aired next year on WHYY and other PBS stations in conjunction with the opening of the National Constitution Center here in Philadelphia.
  • Exploring ways in which WHYY can be involved in creating your "DIY" kit of educational history musicals, to be distributed to schools around the U.S., that will enable local teachers to stage one of your shows.

The educational content of your productions, their challenging and comprehensive Study Guides, and the interactive web components of your programming, all dovetail nicely with our own mission at WHYY. Specifically, we see a natural fit with our newly-created Kids Klub, and its focus on enhancing the programming we deliver to the children in our audience.

Please feel free to share this letter with potential partners and sponsors, as an indication of our intention to aggressively pursue a partnership with Ed Venture Networks. We very much look forward to fulfilling the exciting prospects that collaboration between our companies can present to the youth and families of America.

Sincerely,

William J. Marrazzo
