University August 7, 2000 Mr. Granville Burgess
Deer Mr. Burgess: I very much enjoyed your approach to interesting young people in history as demonstrated in your "Paul Revere Rides Again" pilot script. I think this is the kind of material needed to excite children about history. Your proposal for a musical about the Underground Railroad in Delaware County, "Glory Road", also impresses me with its dramatic and educational potential. I will be happy to serve in an advisory capacity on these and other historical productions. I can review scripts when their subject matter falls within my sphere of expertise, and advise other possible reviewers when they do not. In this manner your series would have the benefit of the expertise of some of the country's finest historians. It is important to make every effort to interest children in history at an early age so we don't "lose" them by making history boring. As the success of Ken Burne's Civil War documentary shows, people love history when it is presented in an exciting way. Your productions promise to do precisely that.
